Emmanuel Seventh-day Adventist Church was born from a vision of faith and evangelism. In the summer of 1989, Pastor G. Earl Knight led a powerful evangelistic series at North Bronx SDA Church, bringing together a group of newly baptized believers. To nurture their spiritual journey, they gathered for worship each Sabbath in an upstairs space at North Bronx SDA. As their faith and numbers grew, they officially became Emmanuel Seventh-day Adventist Church in 1990, with Pastor Ivan Plummer as the first pastor and Elder Collin Thomas as the first elder.
With an expanding congregation, Emmanuel outgrew its initial space and moved to a rented location at 228th Street and Bronxwood Avenue in 1992. A revival series with Dr. Don Kelly added even more members, reinforcing Emmanuel’s mission of evangelism. As the church continued to flourish, it relocated again—this time to Adee Avenue.
Then, on September 16, 2000, Emmanuel found a permanent home—a place we still cherish today.
At Emmanuel, spiritual growth is our foundation, but fellowship strengthens our bonds. We celebrate life's milestones together—birthdays, graduations, weddings, and special banquets. Some of the babies born within our church family have grown up, graduated college, and returned to serve.
We are also a place where love flourishes—at least six couples have found their life partners right here at Emmanuel!
Emmanuel has always embraced progress. We proudly ordained our first female elder and four female deacons, ensuring strong leadership for the future. Additionally, three of our pastors were ordained during their time with us:
Nurturing our youth has always been a priority. Under the leadership of First Elder Michael Green, Emmanuel established the Pathfinder and Adventurer Clubs, providing young people with spiritual guidance, leadership training, and a sense of community. These clubs continue to thrive, with Sister Green now serving as the Adventurer Club Director.
Our Summer Vacation Bible Experience welcomes children from both our church and the wider community, offering a space for learning, faith, and fun.
Faith in action is a cornerstone of our mission. Our Community Service Department actively supports those in need through food distribution and social programs, extending love and care beyond our church walls.
Music is an essential part of Emmanuel’s identity. We are blessed with three choirs:
